Be transported back to a time where roar-some, weird and wonderful creatures roamed the Earth. Discover 570 million years of wildlife, from when the origins of life appeared as a dazzling array of tiny microbes, to a world where dinosaurs were born and the ice age gave way to the forgotten giants of the animal kingdom.
With an extended route for 2019 and over 600 brand-new lanterns, there’s more to explore this year as Giant Lanterns return to Edinburgh Zoo from 15 November to 26 January 2020.
Don’t miss out - Book now to visit Scotland’s only lantern festival this winter.
We are delighted to announce two special evenings as part of our Giant Lanterns Lost Worlds event. The first is our Quiet Night on Monday 9th Dec 2019. During this evening, the music will be turned down low and the event will be open to a smaller audience. The Zoo’s Mobility Vehicle can provide lifts to some parts the lantern route or you can use your own mobility chair to enjoy the lanterns. We will also host a mobile changing places toilet onsite during this event.
The second is our Adults Only evening on Friday 10th January 2020, when the event is only open to those over the age of 18.
This is the third year of the Giant Lanterns event which continues to dazzle and delight. The event stems from a long standing relationship between RZSS and Sichuan, the birth place of Edinburgh Zoo’s giant pandas.
Giant Lanterns: Lost Worlds is brought to you in partnership with the VYA Creative Lantern Company, DDM Entertainment and Events Inc and the Confucius Institute for Scotland.
