Eating at Edinburgh Zoo

The zoo has two restaurants, one café and several kiosks offering a wide range of hot and cold food, snacks and drinks. Whatever you fancy, there’s something to suit all tastes! We offer excellent value and service as part of a great day out for the family. We have allergen alternatives in each of our restaurants. Please ask a member of staff for more information. 

The Gannet is the latest edition to Edinburgh Zoo boasting a menu packed full of fresh, locally sourced ingredients for the whole family to enjoy. Find out more and explore the menu. 

Penguins Café overlooks the world-famous Penguins Rock and has spectacular views of the Pentland Hills from its outdoor decking area. The café serves a selection of breakfast rolls, ciabattas, salads and soup of the day. For the kids there are babycinos, hot chocolate and Penguins Lunch Bags. Find out more and explore the menu. 

Grasslands Restaurant is another of our main catering outlets and is located by the Mansion House at the heart of the zoo. The restaurant is table service and offers a friendly and relaxed atmosphere, perfect for families, couples or solo visitors. Find out more and explore the menu. 

Kiosks (weather dependant)

Feeling a bit peckish, but don’t need a full meal? Then look out for our special kiosks dotted around the zoo. All of our kiosks are open subject to weather conditions and visitor numbers.

Other Facilities at Edinburgh Zoo

Picnic Areas

Whatever the weather, it is fun to eat outdoors! We’ve provided lots of benches and picnic areas to allow you to do just that. The two main picnic areas are located at the hilltop and around the main lawn in front of the mansion house.

Play Areas

There are several play areas around the zoo, designed to allow children to have fun in a safe environment. Please ensure that your children are supervised at all times.

Lockers

We have small number of lockers available for hire each day on a first come first serve basis in our main entrance. The lockers are 40cm x 80cm x 40cm and are suitable for a small wheelie case. Please ask at the front desk for more information about this service. A fee applies for the locker rental, please ask on arrival for pricing and availability.

Mansion House

Located in the heart of the zoo, the Mansion House is available for weddings, private functions, meetings and conferences. For more information please visit our private functions, weddings and conferences section for more information.

Please dispose of your rubbish in the bins provided. We also have special bins for recycling plastic bottles so please use these to help save the environment.
