October has been a very productive month for the Wild about Scotland team! The bus was in the garage getting ready for the winter ahead and the team were in the office refreshing our lesson resources, updating information on RZSS conservation projects and developing some exciting new lessons that we hope to launch next year- watch this space!
This month we also celebrated #WorldTeacherDay. A big thank you to the 2,500 teachers who have been on board the bus in the last three years!
We had a slightly different day of teaching this month when we visited Portobello High School to deliver a workshop on native species for Edinburgh Zoo ZEST (Zoo, Environment, Skills and Training) students and S4 pupils. All the students were a pleasure to teach and got really involved with the workshops we ran.
During the October break, the bus was invited up to RZSS Highland Wildlife Park (always a favourite of ours!) as a part of the Royal Society of Edinburgh family fun day. We had a great day at the park with lots of families hopping on board the bus and lots of other great activities being run by Scottish Wildcat Action, RSPB, Cairngorms rangers and the education team from HWP & Edinburgh Zoo. We were also treated to a beautifully sunny second day at the park with some fantastic views of the animals and surrounding autumn scenery.
At the end of the month we were back at schools for the new term. We visited Clarkston, Eastertoun, David Livingston Memorial and St Michaels and Low Port primary schools. Thank you to all the classes who came on board the bus and to the pupils who took part in assemblies.
Next month we are looking forward to school visits in the Borders, Fife and our final trip away this year to Peterhead.
