A tiny baby porcupine, known as a porcupettewas born at the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland’s (RZSS) Edinburgh Zoo in August to first time parents Zahara and Rick.

Named Fiddich by the wildlife conservation charity’s patrons, the one-month-old Cape porcupine is getting bolder and spending more time outside with his mum and dad.

A porcupine’s quills are covered in hard keratin, the same material that rhino horns and human fingernails are made of.

RZSS patrons are at the forefront of wildlife conservation, both here in Scotland and in over twenty countries around the world. Find out more about becoming a patron at rzss.org.uk/patrons.
