Scottish Opera's Pop-up Opera is back on the road and visiting Edinburgh Zoo again this summer with captivating shows for audience members, featuring four of Gilbert and Sullivans’ best loved hits!
This year we will be offering evening performances which will take place under the marquee by the main lawn, where we will be hosting the Scottish Opera on Wednesday 28 July, Sunday 1 and Sunday 8 August. Please see below for further detail and the performance schedule.
Audience members will be welcomed from 6pm for the first performance time and from 7:30pm for the second performance through our members gate at the top left of the car park. From here we will seat you in socially distanced bubbles by the marquee.
Experience all the drama and wonder of grand opera on a miniature scale, with open-air performances brought to life by a storyteller, two singers, instrumentalists – and a sumptuous set of specially created illustrations.
Immerse yourself in pint-sized versions of The Gondoliers, The Mikado, HMS Pinafore and Pirates of Penzance, which take you on an unforgettable journey through the operas’ musical and dramatic highlights – in just 30 minutes each. Packed with screwball humour, memorable characters, and of course brilliant tongue-twisting tunes, these mini operas are perfect for audiences of all ages.
Safety for all audience members, performers and technical staff has been built into all productions from the very start. Physical distancing and other safety measures will be observed at all times, with no compromise on your protection – or on your spellbinding operatic experience.
