Keeper experiences frequently asked questions

Which animals are involved in the Full Day, Half Day and Junior Keeper Experiences?

The Full Day and Half Day usually involve rhinos, penguins and chimps. Our Junior Keeper Experiences usually involve penguins, meerkats and armadillos. Please note, that we are unable to guarantee any specific animals on the day of your experience due to animal welfare issues.

Do you any of the Edinburgh Zoo Experiences involve the pandas or the koalas?

None of our experiences involve our koalas or pandas, we’re sorry for any disappointment this causes.

How many people can be booked in for an experience?

We are able to book in a maximum of 2 people per experience (apart from our Close Encounter Magic Moment, we can book in 3 people). Please note that you need 1 voucher per person per experience.

When are peak and off peak times for experiences?

Peak times are at weekends and during the Easter and Summer holidays (8 of April to 22 of April 2019 and 1 July to 2 September 2019). Please call 0131 314 0327 or email [email protected] if you have any further questions about peak and off peak times

Do I have to pay entry to the Zoo?

No, your keeper experience voucher covers your entry to the Zoo. However, anyone accompanying you will need to pay entry (unless they are a member or have a voucher) they will be able to do this at the Information Desk when you are signing in for your experience.

Can I bring anyone with me when I’m doing my experience?

Yes, please bring loved ones along to experience your day with you. They won’t be able to go into enclosures with you but they can see you from the public viewing areas and take lots of pictures. They can purchase their entry to the Zoo at the Information Desk when you’re signing in for your experience.

Can I see the pandas while I’m here?

Yes, entry to the Zoo includes the giant panda exhibit. Further information about seeing the pandas is available online here.

How do I book a date?

If you would like to book a specific date before purchasing your voucher, email a completed booking form to [email protected] or call 0131 314 0327 and we can arrange payment after confirming the date is available. Please note that some of our experiences are extremely popular (like our Penguin Magic Moment) and can be booked up for months in advance.

I’m a member, do I get a discount?

Yes, our members are entitled to a 10% discount. The discount code is available in the members’ portal.

Will my experience be cancelled if the weather’s bad?

We do our experiences 365 days a year, rain or shine. Just make sure you wear layers and we’re sure you’ll have a great time. Occasionally we shut down the Zoo due to really bad winds, this is very rare but if it happens we can book you for another suitable date or arrange a refund.
