How long will the event last and what is included?
The event opens at 6pm for a 10pm finish. Please note last entry will be at 8pm. Standard After Hours tickets do not include entry to the zoo during the day. If you wish to visit during the day and attend the event in the evening, please consider buying one of our VIP package tickets.
Take a wander through the zoo and enjoy the long summer evenings. With a host of local food and drink kiosks available, you can relax to the sound of an acoustic set by the main lawn, follow a new digital trail or simply soak up the atmosphere and enjoy your visit at your own pace.
Will I see any animals?
Yes! Some of the animal houses will be closed during the event but the majority will be open. Given the size of our site and considerations of animal welfare it is necessary for us to systematically close the zoo and as a result some areas will shut prior to 10pm. Our animal keepers will also be on hand via a virtual trail to guide you through the zoo and our important conservation work. Living Links along with our koala and female panda enclosures will be closed throughout the event.
Who is the event suitable for?
The event is suitable for everyone! We have specific nights for families, RZSS Members and specifically for those over the age of 18 years (please bring ID as we will be operating a challenge 25 policy).
Please be aware that the zoo is located on a hill and our zoo mobility vehicle is not available during the event due to the ongoing social distancing to combat the ongoing health crisis.
Where are tickets available?
Tickets can be booked online through Eventbrite, our ticketing partner. We may run offers and promotions through other partners in the lead up to the event. We strongly recommend booking in advance to avoid disappointment. Tickets will only be available at the door if there is availability.
What measures are in place to keep visitors safe from Covid-19?
RZSS take the safety of our visitors, staff and animals very seriously and we have put in place stringent safety measures to keep everyone safe. But we ask our visitors to help us by following our guidelines and wearing face covering where possible.
As mentioned above we have measures in place for social distancing that we ask our visitors to abide by. If you have been shielding please do not hesitate to get in touch with us for any further questions you may have.

We may run ticketing promotions or discount offers in the lead up to the event through our own channels or with wider partners.
Can we use discounts and gift vouchers to purchase tickets?
As this is a special event we do not accept standard entry discounts such as Blue Peter Badges, ASVA cards, gift vouchers, Young Scot Cards, RZSS Complimentary tickets, day time corporate tickets, Scotrail Kids go free. Other discounts may also not be redeemed during this event. Please contact us on email@example.com if you have any discount enquiries.
Do I need to print out my tickets?
No, we don’t require you to print your tickets. We can scan them from a mobile device.
I don’t have my ticket confirmation, what should I do?
You should have received an email from Eventbrite directly after booking with your ticket information. If you have not received this, have a look in your junk email folder. You can also log into Eventbrite to find your ticket details. If you’re still having difficulties, email firstname.lastname@example.org listing the date you booked, the name and email address you used to book and a contact telephone number.
Will the event go ahead in bad weather?
If it’s raining the event will still go ahead. We would only cancel the event if the weather is deemed unsafe due to high winds or extreme conditions. See below if the event has been cancelled.
What happens if my event is cancelled?
Edinburgh Zoo will only cancel an event if it is deemed unsafe to attendees, for example, in high winds. If we decide to cancel the event, attendees will be notified by email with as much notice as possible and a full refund will automatically be issued. An email will be sent to the email address used to book the tickets. It is the responsibility of the attendees to check their emails before arriving at the event to check for any updates, and to make sure email addresses are correctly entered when booking tickets. Updates will also be made on our website and social media sites.
What should I wear?
Please be aware that this is an outdoor event; please dress appropriately for the weather and terrain.
Is this event wheelchair accessible?
Yes, the route is designed so that wheelchairs and buggies can get around. We do have some wheelchairs available for hire on arrival. These are available at a first come, first served basis. Mobility scooters are also permitted during the event.
Please be aware that Edinburgh Zoo is on a hill. Unfortunately, our mobility vehicle will not be in operation during this event due to ongoing social distancing restrictions.
I have luggage, where can I leave it?
We have a small number of lockers for hire at the zoo where you can leave bags. These are available on a first come, first served basis. We don’t have facilities to store large suitcases.
How do I get to the zoo?
Are there cash machines on site?
No there are no cash machines on site. Please note due to Covid-19 we will not be accepting cash payments.
Do I have to pay for car parking?
No, not for this event. Please note, the car park might become busy at times.
What food and drink will be available?
We have a host of local food and snacks including fish and chips, coffee and doughnuts and noodles. Rost will be serving up their delicious brand of local dishes, Dog n Bon are bringing their range of gourmet hot dogs and crispy bon bons, while Rolly’s Ice Cream will be keeping us cool on the warm summer evenings with premier hand crafted ice cream rolls.
We will also be serving refreshments throughout the night including bubbles from Poco Prosecco (not here for opening weekend).
Will the gift shop be open?
Our gift shop will remain open until 10pm.
Can I bring my own alcoholic drinks?
No, bringing alcohol onsite to the zoo is strictly prohibited. Random bags searches will take place upon entry to this event and intoxicated persons will be asked to leave the premises.
Onsite bars will serve a variety of alcoholic beverages (operating a challenge 25 policy).
Do carers get free entry?
Carers tickets are available through Eventbrite, but you must provide proof on arrival. A maximum of one carer is permitted to enter Edinburgh Zoo free of charge when accompanying someone with additional needs.
How sustainable is this event?
RZSS is a charity committed to the conservation of our natural world. All of our operations work to meet the highest levels of sustainability: minimising waste, reducing single-use plastics, reusing materials where possible and segregating and recycling waste.
