How long will Santa’s Grotto last and what is included?

Each family will have five-minute slots to meet Father Christmas, hear about his tales from the North Pole and receive an early festive surprise!

Our festive grotto is located adjacent to our main lawn. Please allow 20 minutes from your entry time to make your booked slot.

Admission tickets to Edinburgh Zoo must be purchased in conjunction with your grotto slot tickets.

How much are tickets to Santa’s Grotto and why do I need a time slot?

Tickets are priced at £17 per child. Tickets can be booked online through Eventbrite, our ticketing partner.

Santa’s Grotto takes place on selected dates from 11.15pm – 3.45pm, slots are available every five minutes.

Please arrive at Santa's Grotto no more than five minutes before your chosen time slot to minimise contact with others.

Who do I need to buy a ticket for?

You only need to buy a ticket for the children/babies visiting Santa.

You do not need to purchase tickets for the adults. All grotto slots must be booked in advance. There is a sheltered area where additional adults in the party can wait. Each family will have the opportunity to spend approximately five minutes with Santa at their chosen slot.

This is an add-on experience, and admission tickets for the grotto date must be booked. 

How are you keeping everyone safe during the pandemic?

In line with Government guidance, Santa will be socially distanced from you and your children to help keep everyone safe. A photo opportunity is still allowed, just from a distance!

On arrival adults and children over 12 should wear face coverings indoor and ensure your whole party uses the hand sanitiser station before entering the grotto.

Please arrive at Santa's Grotto no more than five minutes before your chosen time slot to minimise contact with others.

Is Santa’s Grotto accessible?

Yes, Santa’s Grotto is located adjacent to the main lawn within the zoo. This is fully accessible for wheelchairs and buggies. Please do not hesitate to get in touch with us prior to your visit at if your child requires any additional support. Our team can then help in any way possible on the evening. Our Santa can also use British Sign Language for children who are deaf.

What do I need to bring with me?

Please bring your Santa’s Grotto Eventbrite ticket with you to the Grotto. This can either be printed or shown on a mobile device.

As the grotto is hosted in an indoor area, face covering will be required in line with Scottish Government Guidance.

Can I take photos?

Yes! You’re welcome to take as many as you like. Please share them with us on social media using @edinburghzoo.

Can I change my date/time slot?

Tickets are non-refundable, non-exchangeable and non-transferable. Your tickets are only valid for the date and time specified on your email confirmation. If there are special circumstances involved within your request, please email

Can I get a refund?

No, tickets are non-refundable, non-exchangeable and non-transferable. No refunds or exchanges will be issued for event bookings should you no longer be able to attend.

Can I change the gift?

Once the presents have been gifted, they cannot be exchanged either during or after Santa’s Grotto experience. A present will be given to each child that is deemed suitable for the age group.
