Tian Tian and Yang Guang have arrived safely at Edinburgh Zoo on Sunday 4 December after a nine hour flight from China. They will be given two weeks to settle in before they go on show to the public on Friday 16 December.

Their enclosure is located behind the penguins, near the monkey house.

Leafcutter ants at Brilliant Birds

Watch our leafcutter ants as they carry loads up to twenty times their body weight over a hanging rope back to the nest tank.

These ants are natural farmers and use pieces of leaves, flower petals, fruits and vegetables to create an edible fungus.

Visitors can get a closer look at the fascinating ants in a new exhibit at the entrance of Brilliant Birds, our new walk-through aviary.

Newborns and new arrivals

There are some new faces to spot at Edinburgh Zoo this winter including the baby who is all spots and stripes- Nadira the tapir.

Recently born to mum Sayang and dad Ka, Nadira can be seen playing and exploring outside or snoozing in the hay.

Also look for new guy on the block, Duke the Sclater's lemur, who has joined fiesty female, Noemie, in our lively lemur group.

He has black fur and striking blue eyes, and can often be seen spending time with ginger-haired Noemie.

Edinburgh Zoo is a winter wonderland

Our penguins look pretty as a Christmas card when the snow begins to fall. The winter weather provides excellent enrichment for our lively penguin colony who can sometimes be spotted chasing snowflakes.

Our penguins aren't the only residents who show an interest in the snow. You might see our oriental small-clawed otters slipping and sliding on the snow and ice or spot our inquisitive squirrel monkeys and brown capuchins investigating the winter weather.
