Meerkats caught comparing each other

Keepers at RZSS Edinburgh Zoo have recently made a rather startling discovery in the meerkat enclosure. On entering the enclosure on Friday morning, they discovered a wooden plank with a number of random marks of varying heights inside the meerkats enclosure.

Ann Teatah, Meerkat Keeper at RZSS Edinburgh Zoo, said: “It was truly odd to discover this plank with marks in the meerkat enclosure. We have no idea how it got into there in the first place. On closer inspection we discovered a number of the meerkats’ names accompanying the marks.”

Keepers at the Zoo decided to monitor the meerkats closely to try and find out what they had been getting up to after-hours. After a short period of observation, it became apparent that the animals had been standing side by side in close proximity to the board, whilst another meerkat watched on. As Ann Teatah explains:

“We were truly surprised to see the meerkats had been comparing each other.”
