Giant Pandas

In May 2008, the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland (RZSS), which owns Edinburgh Zoo and Highland Wildlife Park, announced their intention to bring a breeding pair of giant pandas to Scotland.

This followed a visit to China where our Chief Executive and the Head of Animals, Education and Conservation for RZSS, met with Chinese Government officials and signed a Letter of Intent. This demonstrates a serious commitment to bringing giant pandas to Scotland and we hope to have them here in 2009, to coincide with our centenary.

Many people have expressed an interest in this announcement and we will continue to update the public with our progress. Please click on the links below to read about the latest giant panda developments.
