Singtastic

The Royal Zoological Society of Scotland (RZSS) has joined forces with Singtastic composer David Haines.

Following the International Year of Biodiversity 2010, we offered schools throughout Scotland the chance to learn science through the power of song. 30 schools received a CD ROM with supported materials to learn a number of songs entitled ‘A Tremendous Journey’ composed by David Haines.

In addition we held a competition in 2011 for the pupils to compose a song about the reintroduction of beavers to Scotland. The three winning schools Pentland Primary, Edinburgh; Belmont School, Glasgow and Lathallan School, Montrose performed their own beaver songs at Edinburgh Zoo.

The cross-curricular aspect of the project was in line with Curriculum for Excellence, and the songs they have created are a great fun way to celebrate the return of beavers to Scotland.  In using the Singtastic pack they have discovered through song all about the amazing wildlife and wild places we have in our own country and worldwide.

More information about Singtastic can be found on the Singtastic website.
