Global Classroom Conference

GC logoThe Global Classroom Initiative began in 2005 as a way to engage upper secondary school students with Global Citizenship and Environmental issues. The aim is to foster responsible citizens, successful learners, confident individuals and effective contributors to both Scottish society and beyond.

The Initiative takes the form of an annual one-day conference which is open to 120 students from across Scotland.
Each school can bring a maximum of up to 15 students. The conference is FREE as part of the charitable objectives of RZSS.

For the past 2 years we have run student debates which argue contentious issues often concerning the conflict between humans and wildlife. These has been very successful and we hope to do this again in 2012. In addition each year the students have a series of talks and interactive workshops throughout the day linking to the theme of the conference. The students also have some time to experience Edinburgh Zoo.

To book for Global Classroom Conference 2012 please email education@rzss.org.uk

Conference runs 9:30am - 3:00pm. Maximum 15 pupils per school.

Booking deadline: Friday 10th February 2012

Please note:
This year we are requesting that all schools attending the conference please stay for the whole day – 9.30am – 3pm.
If this is going to be a problem we ask that you reconsider coming to the conference.

Unfortunately in past years we have had schools drop out at the last minute, preventing other schools from benefiting from the conference.
With this in mind there will be a Cancellation/No Show on the day charge of £40 per school for cancellation after Monday 20th February 2012.

To date the themes for the conferences have been:

2005 – Into Africa – an African Perspective – on Global Citizenship
2006 – Making a Difference – Local Enterprise, Global Impact
2007 – Climate Change – myth or reality?
2008 – Surviving Climate Change? – adapting to change
2009 – Welcome Home?  - Species re-introductions occur globally, but are they always welcome and do they work?
2010 – Biodiversity is Life
2011 – Invasive Species – Living with the alien threat
