Boa arrived at the Zoo in 2008 as a juvenile male just about to reach sexual maturity, so the adult females in the east group accepted him into the group relatively easily. He tended to stay out of their way and tried to avoid getting himself into trouble. However, now that he has matured he has completely taken over the group and asserted himself as the alpha male.
