Qafzeh

Qafzeh displaying in the outdoor section of Edinburgh Zoo's Budongo Trail exhibit

Adopt a chimp!Born: 31 March 1992

Appearance: Qafzeh is large and muscular. When he opens his mouth he is missing a few front teeth due to a previous visit by the dentist!

History and character: Qafzeh is currently our alpha male, born to Emma in 1992. He is a big and strong chimp, an ideal candidate as a leader.

Qafzeh can often be seen displaying: charging about the enclosure, making lots of noise (hooting and drumming) and generally being a bit of a bully. He rose to leader by being quite aggressive to the others, rather than gaining their respect and support, and his mother Emma is always there to back him up...in fact he is a bit of a mummy’s boy!

Qafzeh is currently facing a challenge to his alpha-position by the younger Kindia.
