Kindia

Appearance: Kindia is not as big as the other males. He has an uneven hairline around his face, where he was groomed a little too much as a youngster. History and character: Kindia is Lyndsey’s son and Kilimi’s younger brother. He is now entering adulthood. Kindia loves his food, and is often one of the first out to see what’s on offer – usually unable to contain his excitement if it is something desirable! Kindia has recently been challenging Qafzeh for his position as alpha male. He has done this by lots of display behaviour (such as charging and hooting). It rarely comes to physical fighting, but sometimes chimps will cause injury to one another during displays, fights and disputes. This is all part and parcel of natural chimp life, and is always monitored closely by the keepers. Apart from the family allegiances, it remains to be seen whether Qafzeh or Kindia will be triumphant. Go back to Meet Our Chimps |
