RZSS Management

Interim Chief Executive - Hugh Roberts

hughroberts Hugh has extensive experience of top level roles within both charitable and not-for-profit organisations and his skills and capabilities are an excellent fit for the RZSS. Hugh has a deep understanding of membership bodies and has proven strengths in showing strong leadership of executive teams, building strong relationships with key stakeholders and deliver challenging objectives.

 

Director of Resources - James Stewart

Director of Resources - James Stewart Responsible for all financial accounting and management activities such as financial forecasting and accounts, VAT, corporate governance, risk assessment, payroll, insurance, pensions administration, ICT planning, delivery and IT support.  This role also involves looking after Health & Safety and HR.

Director of Animal Conservation and Research - Iain Valentine

Director of Animals, Education & Conservation - Iain Valentine Responsible for all animal collection, animal welfare, management, enrichment & presentation activities, at both Edinburgh Zoo and Highland Wildlife Park and all ex situ and in situ research & conservation within RZSS.

 

Director of Business Operations - Gary Wilson

Director of Business Operations - Gary Wilson Responsible for all property development and maintenance activities such as Masterplan development, project planning and delivery, gardens & horticulture, phones / radio equipment, security.  Also responsible for all commercial activities such as public restaurant and Mansion House catering, events, weddings and corporate hospitality, retail, visitor services including reception, car park, Hilltop Safari and customer complaints at Edinburgh Zoo.  Responsible for operation and management of retail and visitor services at the Highland Wildlife Park.

 

Head of Animals - Darren McGarry

Head of Animals - Darren McGarry Darren McGarry manages all aspects of the daily operation of the Animal Collection and all animal related development at Edinburgh Zoo. Originally employed on a youth training scheme, Darren has worked for the RZSS since 1986. He has worked with birds, primates and hoof stock and was Head hoof stock keeper for 10 years before becoming Animal Collection Manager and then Head of Animals in 2011

 

Head of Human Resources - Helen Moreland

Head of Human Resources - Helen Moreland Helen Moreland heads up our HR function and has responsibility for all aspects of human resource management including policy and process, employee relations, recruitment and selection, training and development. Helen joined the Society in 2009, has 20 years of HR experience and is a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development.

 

Head of Marketing - Sharon Simpson

  Responsible for overseeing marketing, external communications, public relations, publications and graphics.
