Where are the beavers coming from and how many?
We plan to gather 15–20 beavers (in family groups and pairs) from the Telemark region of Norway.
The Scandinavian Beaver is considered to be the closest type to that once found in the UK and the Telemark terrain has many similarities with the west coast of Scotland.
How will the animals be transported to the site?
They will be shipped from Norway to a quarantine facility and then from there to the release site. The Royal Zoological Society of Scotland transports animals from country to country on a regular basis and all transports are carried out with minimal stress to the animal.
