Will the Beaver Population Go Out of Control as they have No Natural Predators?
Beaver populations are regulated by the available habitat and food supply and steep topography limits their range.
Re-colonisation is likely to be gradual. A great deal of evidence shows that watershed divides are a strong barrier to spread, especially in places like Scotland where the headwaters are usually not suitable beaver habitat.
It would be entirely feasible in Scotland to restrict beavers to those watersheds where their presence is considered desirable.
