The Gentoo Penguin is the fastest swimming bird in the world, reaching speeds of 40km/hour (about 25mph).

 

Bactrian Camels can take on up to 135 litres of water in a single drinking session.

 

Even though Hammerkops stand at 50cm tall, they build a nest which can be 6ft (1.83m) in height and width.

 

If a Violet Turaco is attacked they have the ability to ‘release’ feathers, leaving the predator with a mouth full of feathers rather than the bird itself.

 

Security guards were employed at the three remaining wild Waldrapp Ibis nesting sites, to prevent the birds from being killed or stolen.

 

Each Painted Hunting Dog has a unique pattern, like our fingerprint, so every pack member can be identified.

 

Buff-cheeked Gibbons can swing through trees reaching speed of as much as 56km/h (35mph).

 

Cassowarys can run up to 50 km/h (32 mph) through the dense forest and can jump up to 1.5 m (5 feet) straight up.

 

European Sousliks (ground squirrels) hibernate (like a deep sleep) for up to 8 months of the year.

 

A Lesser Bush Baby only measures 13 cm in length but can leap distances of up to 20ft (around 6m).
